XRP Bridge Hack: Attacker Exploits Relayer Flaw, Funds Traced to Tornado Cash
A vulnerability in a bridge relayer has been exploited to steal 198,715.88 XRP, according to an on-chain transaction analysis. The stolen funds were routed through Tornado Cash, a service commonly used to obscure the origin of cryptocurrency transactions, making the funds harder to trace and recover.
In response to the incident, the affected bridge has been halted while the operators conduct a security review. The FBI has reportedly been alerted to the theft as part of efforts to investigate the exploit and potentially track down those responsible.
While this incident involves a cryptocurrency bridge rather than a traditional business system, it highlights a broader lesson for any organisation relying on third-party platforms or integrations: a single flaw in a connecting component can lead to significant financial loss, and attackers are quick to move stolen assets to obscure their trail.
