Visa Open-Sources AI Defence Tools as Autonomous Cyberattacks Loom

Visa has open-sourced components of its AI-powered cyber defence system, saying the move follows what it described as humbling lessons learned from vulnerabilities exposed by AI models. The payments company is preparing for a future where cyberattacks could be launched autonomously by AI systems, requiring defenders to respond just as quickly and intelligently.

Visa also flagged quantum computing as a looming threat, joining a growing chorus of large organisations warning that current encryption methods may eventually be broken by sufficiently powerful quantum machines. By sharing parts of its defensive AI tooling, Visa is signalling that collaboration across the industry may be necessary to keep pace with attackers who are increasingly using AI to automate and scale their operations.
