Anthropic has outlined how it is strengthening election safeguards for Claude before the 2026 US midterms. Using its Anthropic Insights tool, the company analysed 250,000 conversations from a recent one-week period. Conversations touching on politics, public policy or social issues made up about 5.75% of US conversations on Claude.ai, and about 0.51% were specifically about elections or voting. Anthropic expects those shares to rise as Election Day nears.

The sample suggests misuse is rare. Requests asking Claude whom or what to vote for appeared in about 0.01% of US conversations, and requests that broke Anthropic's election integrity policies appeared in about 0.002%. More often, people asked questions that help them reach their own conclusions, such as where candidates stand on a particular issue.

Anthropic has added two ways to point users to reliable information. Claude.ai will keep showing a banner linking to TurboVote, a nonpartisan resource from Democracy Works, when people ask about voter registration, polling places or election dates. Later this month, Claude will also draw official voting information from Democracy Works into its answers for US users. Someone asking where to vote or what ID to bring will get a response specific to their state. The information comes from publicly available state and local election sources.
